Kiwis move up at Boekelo Horse Trials

New Zealand's team at the Boekelo Horse Trials in The Netherlands has improved its position to fifth place going into today's cross-country.

Germany's Simone Deitermann still leads, but on her second horse, Free Easy NRW on 32.80. She is also third on Flambeau H, on 37.60 penalties, with Britain's Ruth Edge and P.C. Wilson in second place on 35.20.

Australia's Andrew Hoy on Grand Joca is now fourth on 38.80, with German rider Julia Mestern fifth on FRH Schorsch with 39.20.

New Zealand's Neil Spratt and Upleadon put up the best test of the Kiwis on the second day, ending in 19th place on 45.20 penalties, and Mark Todd and Grass Valley are 38th on 50.40. Bruce Haskell and Not Kidding's 61.20 penalties on Thursday are the discard score for the team, which is now in fifth place of the 10 teams. Germany leads on 125.20, followed by Britain on 136.00, and The Netherlands on 139.00. In fourth is France with 139,80, and the Kiwi team is sitting on 152.20.

Individual rider Debbie Mitchell on Waimak is in 67th place on 56.40. Dan Jocelyn and Special Advocate are now 69th (56.60), and Bruce Haskell and Not Kidding are 82nd (61.20).

A field of 96 starts in the cross-country today, with the event drawing to a close with the showjumping on Sunday.
