Raglan's Jody Hartstone won the highest national dressage title in spectacular style at Taupo this weekend.
The 35-year-old fulltime equestrian took out the prestigious New Zealand dressage championship title at grand prix level, also winning the Tironui Trophy and the Burkner Medal, as well as the award for the best performed stallion.
While Hartstone is no stranger to winning national titles, this is her first on her newest imported stallion, Whisper V, recently arrived from Australia where he was well proven as a top level competitive horse.
In one of the largest Grand Prix classes New Zealand has sported for a number of years, Hartstone kept her cool against tough competition to win the overall title, with virtually a mistake-free test in the musical freestyle.
Hartstone finished on a final score of 71.2 percent, with closest rival, Vanessa Way (Taranaki) a distant second on 68 percent.
Next week she rides Whisper at the Horse of the Year Show in Hastings, where she hopes to gain a qualifying score for the London Olympic Games or World Equestrian Games.
