From Times Online (dated 30 April 2010)
Ruth Edge, the British national champion, has taken a substantial lead at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials on Two Thyme after a wet and blustery opening day of dressage on Friday.
Edge, 30, who is competing in her first three-day event with the 16-year-old gelding since winning Luhmuhlen in 2007, was the only rider to gain a score in the 30s. Kitty King (née Boggis), a former top junior rider, is in second place on Boondoggle a fraction ahead of her namesake Mary King, 48, on Imperial Cavalier.
Edges pre-eminence in this discipline is well established. Trained since 1994 by Judy Harvey - and latterly with Bert Rutten, the former Dutch trainer and Olympic rider - the Cumbrian-based rider has three national dressage titles to her credit.
Her test yesterday on Maureen and Phil Smiths Thoroughbred gelding - on which she won her third British Open title at Gatcombe last year - drew high marks from all three judges. I was delighted with him she said. |
