from Virtual Equestrian (dated 12 May)

A highlight on the Sydney CDI program is the Prix St Georges Derby and the Horseland Teams awards that arise from the outcome of this event. The riders enjoy a great spirit of camaraderie and get to meet the owners of the horses, learn more about their training and of course add to their personal  experience through the opportunity to work with a completely unknown horse and endeavour to get the best work after just 30 minutes together.

This event was sponsored by Horseland, who are a major contributor at our important events and invaluable supporter of Australian Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing Teams.  This Australian company now has world wide representation as a leading saddlery supplier understands the need to support riders and competitions in order to foster equestrian sport.  They have a fine history of developing some of our leading riders and legendaries such as Heath and Rozzie Ryan, Rachael Sanna, Shane Rose, Stuart Tinney, Amanda Howell, Blair and Nikki Richardson and Rebecca Farrow have all explained the difference that Horseland’s support has made to their success.

Horseland made a huge contribution to all classes at the 2010 Sydney CDI by donating the beautiful woollen, embroidered dress rugs that were given as prizes for each class. Every competitor in the Prix St Georges Derby was given a lovely rug and it is customary for the riders to take them home as a memento of their wonderful experience in Australia.

The outright winner of the PSG Derby was New Zealand’s Jody Hartstone riding Connie Bookless’ UQ Anapavlova.  Jody came to Sydney to take part in the CDI 3* event on Whisper lV – a stallion well known to us all for his marvellous performances with NSW professional, Brett Parbery.  Jody purchased Whisper several months ago from  Victorian owner Kerry Mack and put in a great showing for New Zealand at this all important event.
