A roadside assistance scheme to help stranded horse owners around the world has set up a New Zealand presence.

The free-to-join scheme aims to build up a network of equestrian people prepared to help other members stranded with their horses.

Horse owners who join will be able to call for assistance when they are out and about and run into trouble.

The network hopes its members will be to offer support in the event of flat batteries, flat tyres, or needing a fellow member to collect their horses from the roadside.

Those who sign up will receive a monthly emailed list of contacts which they can print out and keep in their glove box.

Members can provide feedback on their experiences with other members, too, by using the feedback form.

Companies are welcome to join if they provide 24/7 mobile or call out services.

The organisers stress that it is up to the two parties to work out the details of the assistance. It is not the responsibility of the scheme organisers.
