Will Simpson of the United States beat Katie Mcvean of New Zealand in a jump-off Sunday to win the $100,000 CN Performance World Cup Grand Prix horse jumping event.
Simpson and Mcvean were the only riders to run a clean first run on the course, resulting in the jump-off.
Olympic champion Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, Ont., was third with a one-fault ride.
Karen Cudmore, originally from Victoria but now residing in Omaha, Neb., was fourth. Beth Underhill of Georgetown, Ont., finished seventh.
After Mcvean knocked down two rails in the first ride of the jump-off, Simpson rode Archie Bunker to a four-fault round and took the win.
It's almost the kiss of death for me having rails to play with, Simpson said, but it wasn't a problem for him or his horse Sunday.
Archie can jump great, Simpson added. He loves it here.
