Former Nelsonian James Avery has tasted more success, claiming the junior category at New Zealand Eventing Championships at Te Kauwhata.
Riding his mount Amarillo, Avery, 18, won the dressage, went clear within time in the cross country and only knocked down one rail in the showjumping one-star (novice) competition.
For his success, Avery has won a week-long scholarship in January at the Clifton Eventing Establishment working with World Equestrian Games rider Jonathon Paget.
His next event will be the One Star National 3 day event at Puhinui next weekend.
Avery was one of three South Island riders to win at the event, with his boss, farrier Brent Jury winning the advanced category, while Emily Butcher won the intermediate class. |
