From Manawatu Standard (17Jan)

Tinapai couldn't repeat his showjumping feat from Dannevirke a week ago during the World Cup round at Woodhill Sands near Kumeu yesterday.

Opiki's Lucy Akers, on her thoroughbred gelding, had to settle for seventh place from the eight starters after rejoicing in her best finish, third, at Dannevirke last week.

"I did everything the same," Akers said. "He was just a little bit wild today."

They toppled two fences in the first round and had a time fault on the course designed by a Canadian course builder.

Akers incurred four faults (two fences) in the second round.

Even World Cup leader, Katie McVean (Cambridge) had to settle for a lesser placing than normal.

She rested her top horse, Dunstan Delphi, and rode Daffodil to third place after four faults in round one and a clear in the second.

The Woodhill winner was Tauranga's Phillip Steiner on his big black horse, Annandale Online NZPH.

He had also won the round at Kihikihi.

Australian Billy Raymont kept everyone on their toes for the first time this season, being runner-up and fourth on his New Zealand-bred thoroughbred.

Raymont isn't eligible for World Cup points because he is competing in the Australian series.

Dannevirke's Maurice Beatson didn't make the trip north.

Catherine Cameron (Waipukurau) was fifth on Kahurangi Tardak, Otaki's Adrian Bruce sixth on Witheze, who didn't jump at Dannevirke, and Pukekohe's Paula Mussen was eighth.

Bernard Denton didn't start on Suzuki.

The World Cup moves to Gisborne next week and the final round is at Tauranga in three weeks.
