New Zealand equestrian gold medal winner Mark Todd receives congratulations from Princess Anne during medal ceremonies in Seoul.

Mark Todd became the first rider to defend an Olympic three-day eventing title since 1932 when he won gold at the 1984 and 1988 Games.

In 1984, Todd had become the first Kiwi to win an equestrian medal at the Games when he won the three-day eventing crown on board Charisma.

The New Zealand equestrian star and Charisma won again in 1988 in Seoul and also claimed bronze in the team competition.

In 1992 Todd also won team silver, before securing a bronze medal in the individual eventing competition at the 2000 Games in Sydney.

He also competed in Beijing in 2008 at the age of 52, finishing 17th in the individual and fifth in the team event, and looks set to line up at his sixth Games at London 2012.
